Farouche in the Forest

I scanned this Kodachrome slide to match an earlier reproduction for a client -- using minor tweeks.

Farouche by Nina Ricci was my first national ad for perfume. I took the

first edition crystal bottle by Lalique to Central Park and balanced it very

carefully on a rock. I was nervous that something could happen to it,

but I don't think I could have reached the same results in the studio.

I would love to have your comments.

Beautifully set up Leora. The star filter works well and the landscape reflection in the top is just great. The lighting is very good, dramatic but also adding elegance. The only detractor for me is the contrast. Setting up in the woods could give some difficulty here but I do think it results in a harshness that is in conflict with the elegance and beautiful curves of the subject.

Beautiful work overall

My compliments, Bill

Hi, Bill. Thank you for your thoughtful comment. This is one of the out-takes which happened to have the starburst and more of the blue sky than the photo that was published. It is my personal favorite. The star burst is from the round top of the bottle acting like a fish eye. I was using a longer lens to a get shallow depth of field among the trees and the effect of a filter would have been much different.

Farouche means wild and outdoorsy, so my choice of the Park turned out to be a pleasant surprise for the client. I am attaching the published ad.

Best regards, Leora

Excellent idea and light. Pity about definition... But in any case I love it! Thanks so much for your kind words. All an honour for me. Best Regards.

Hi Leora

You used a great idea and produced a stunning image. I notice that the image the client used had highlights more in range which to me gives the whole image a bit more of an elegant feel.

Thanks for visiting
