The eating of this large snake was not a slow and passive ingestion.

Periodically, the gator would rise up and violently whip the partially

ingested snake around before continuing the process of swallowing it.

I wonder how many shots you got/took in all watching this whole process....This is not the average 'I got an interesting shot today' kind of thing.

NIce shot, Marvin. Was it in the everglades or in the Big Cypress? One of the Rangers in BICY told us all about the competition between the Alligators and invasive Pythons down there. How did you arrive at this situation, if you don't mind me asking. Thanks

The shot was taken at Loxahatchee NWP (Arthur C. Marshall Park) in Boynton Beach, Florida. Someone called the scene to my attention and I watched it almost from the beginnning to the very end - of the snake. I was shooting in burst mode. I had about 100 images - mostly the process was quiet but at times the gator got violent with the snake.

A rare occurance to be captured .. congratulations ! I know you could not probably control the background / lighting etc.. but would it have helped to have a larger aperture opening ?.. just a thought..

All in all a rare occurance nicely captured - 7/7

Obviously one of a series.

How long were you hidden in the reeds to get this?

Wildlife photographers have my respect. I just don't posess the patience to wait for a shot like this to come along.

Plus, one imagines it could be quite dangerous!!!

The gator was about 50 feet away, across a canal, and quite safe. The process of ingesting took about an hour. It was mostly quiet with occasional bursts of wild thrashing. When the action would occur, if I wasn't distracted by conversation with other gawkers, I would just hit the burst mode and collect my dividend.

This is my favorite in the series. I can tell the snake is still fighting vigorously. Nice, clear shot.
