hansdans 0 Posted February 23, 2009 Dippers stand on a rock or the river bank and bob itheir body up and down while at the same time blinking its white eye-lid or nictitating membrane which is used to protect the eye underwater. It is often seen first when flying straight and fast along a water course. They seem to have territories of about 1 km along a stream or river and, once they have hunted along the stream bed in one direction (mainly upstream?) they fly to the other end of the territory to start hunting again. C&C are wellcome. Link to comment
hansdans 0 Posted February 23, 2009 I missed too:) - this is just a cropping to show the eyelid protection taken with a 500mm tele, just to illustrate the feature. BR Hannu Link to comment
fischerphotos 0 Posted February 24, 2009 Good photo but it looks like his chest is a little over exposed. I would try darkening it a bit in photoshop. Link to comment
hansdans 0 Posted February 26, 2009 That is good idea. However, the photo was posted just to illustrate the eyelid protection, but instead of using PS, which is not too familiar to me - I post better photos to complete the sight of the beautiful plumage of this special bird.
