brockmiller 0 Posted February 23, 2009 Great shot, the red of the tree branch and the the yellow of the bird really "pop" against the neutral background. It really brings the bird forward to the viewers eye. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted February 24, 2009 Thank you very much, Brock! I tried hard to position myself so that the background would be smooth and the colors of the bird would dominate this composition. This is my first serious attempt to shoot small birds. I appreciate your kind comment! Regards, Dick Link to comment

thadley 15 Posted March 4, 2009 It has been a while since I have visited and I see that your photography and especially your bird images have grown exponentially. Keep up the good work and "happy PN anniversary". 7/6 Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted March 4, 2009 Good morning, Tony! And very nice to hear from you! I've been having some fun with these little birds in my backyard and also working to find the "sweet spot" of my Nikkor 80-400mm VR lens. I'm also re-affirming the great advantage of a tripod for this kind of work, but I need a better one and a cable release. One step at a time. It's all been fun. Warm regards, Dick Link to comment
jbm 0 Posted March 9, 2009 That zoom of yours is so sharp it's almost dangerous. I use the 70-300 VR and its very sharp in the midrange, too, but this is just amazing. Well done. Cheers, Jay Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted March 9, 2009 Thank you, Jay! Yes, it is a sharp lens, which is why I bought it even though it is not an AF-S lens, which makes it slow to autofocus. Stopped down to f8 it is even better. Have a good day! Dick Link to comment
