Great natural shot, B.C. The angle, story and tones are great. Well done, my friend. Regards, Lawrence.

B.C.-

This is a great character shot - well captured. The only problem I see, and I saw it immediately, is that the foreground white shirt is over-exposed and blown out - no detail of folds or the stripe pattern remains. I also found the slight glare on the right on the face of the doorway a bit distracting. So, I dragged your photo onto my desktop and played with it in PS a bit. Attached a revision for you to look at. (Let me know what you think - it's OK if you don't like it. After all, I am tinkering with your art, but with good intentions). All I used was a simple crop, a slight decrease in brightness, an adjustment in shadow/highlight, and a small tweak in curves. The challenge was preserving the wonderful skin tones and luminosity while recovering some detail for the shirt sleeve. The changes also brought detail of the second man's face, which I find add to the overall character of the photo. 6O/5A

Dear friends , thank you for your visit and kind remarks and ratings ...

Dear Sandra ,

Thank you for taking the time and making the changes.

I agree with the details in the shirt and shows much more with your version.

The reason why i left it my way was to keep the skin tones as they were , but liked yours a lot too.

So thank you again :)

HI B.C.

An "expert" probably could have made the corrections to the shirt using layers and left the skin tones untouched. That would be optimal... but I haven't mastered layers yet, so everything I do is on a single layer of the photo. I didn't expect you to replace your work with my suggestion - just keep the example in mind and remember the suggestion to stop down your aperture one or two stops when there is white in the foreground that needs detail. (I learned this shooting flowers with white petals - white reflects light more, so you need less of it to capture its detail). Also - when a photo is over-exposed, the detail is gone - blown away; it cannot be recovered. However, if the photo is slightly underexposed, the detail is there and can be brought out in post-processing (true of film and digital). You probably know this already, but just in case I thought I'd mention it. I look forward to seeing your next photo posting!

I prefer the original version, it's a story of the man, not their shirts, I like stronger contrast..very good work.
