This young man, about 16, appears to be flying, as he launches from

this shipping dock with his skateboard in what might be anytown, USA,

where kids congregate on weekends to play their favorite sport --

skateboard. Anyplace where it doesn't say 'no skateboarding' seems to

be fair game. Your ratings and critiques are invited and most welcome.

If you rate harshly or very critically, please submit a helpful and

constructive comment; please share your superior photographic

knowledge to help improve my photography. Thanks! Enjoy! John

This was one of a group of very nice and well-behaved young men, having fun at their sport on a holiday Sunday.

This young man was part of a group doing this exercise, and although I have a number of shots without almost identical composition, I like this one the best for the attitude of his body and the outlining against the plain background.

I stopped in the street to take one or two photos then swung into the 'no parking' area to talk briefly to their friend who was videoing them, and when they saw what I had taken they invited me to take more.

So I did.

This is one result, out of very many.

Almost all were good.

All were on 'C' drive, but usually it is the first that is the best, indicating I could have done as well in single shot mode as well, I think.

Notice the 'Caution' sign over the lad's left shoulder!

Caution is what skateboarding is NOT about.

Male hormones and risk-taking behavior have to have some outlet, and this is relatively 'safe' compared to, say, a stint in Iraq.

John, of the two, I like this much better and seems the better for "study in gray" I like the door in scene the front side of the boy and the boy sees sharper. Maybe focus all around is better

Your taste and mine differ.

That's all -- often markedly.

That's why they make chocolate, vanilla and sometimes strawberry.

I did feel this was 'good enough to post among my best work' as we are requested to do for critique. but feel the other is better' with its straight lines interrupted by the wildness and noncomformity of the skater's akimbo state.
