drewmurphy 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Pakri Islands, Gunnar? Nicely composed and captured...I like the placement of the road and building in the image. I hope they have removed all the unexploded bombs the Soviets left there by now? Link to comment
gunnar1664882369 1 Posted February 16, 2009 Drew, this is taken on Pakri peninsula actually. The Pakri Islands are 3...5 km from there. The islands and peninsula were probable the most secret area in Estonia in the period of Soviet occupation - because of the nuclear submarin training centre. In 1995-97 about 3000 unexplosed devices were destroyed in the islands, so maybe these are clear now, but we never know....There are still a few former Soviet military constructions (ruins), like this one. These are ofcourse not aesthetical objects, but interesting for photographers:). Thank you for your time and thank you for your comment! Link to comment

Jack McRitchie 150 Posted February 25, 2009 It is rare to encounter a picture that makes your heart leap within you, to which you respond instinctively as if some sympathetic chord had been sounded in your chest. For me this is such a picture. It makes me feel as if I am part of a legend. Link to comment
pressuredbyphotons 5 Posted June 1, 2013 This is a romantic image despite the condition of the building the its previous history. One doesn't meet very Estonians although a friend of mine had an Estonian mother and I worked with someone who was of Estonian descent as well. I still remember his joke about their pale complexions that went like this: "What do you find if you look under a rock; an Estonian". Link to comment
