whydangle 0 Posted February 14, 2009 Thanks for taking a look and offering your suggestions! The Larger preview is recommended. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted February 15, 2009 your title couldn't have been more apt. No criticism but a square crop from the left with only those two trees could be worthwhile as well. Link to comment
harrylichtman 0 Posted February 15, 2009 Mark - A much stronger composition for me, compared to the previous. I might only suggest to crop the small tree on the far right out as well, to create symmetry with the 2 large and 2 smaller trees. The sky is a little to cyanotic for me, so I'm not sure if that is your artistic interpretation or if that was the sky's color. Really a minor point. A great feeling is generated by this image-makes me want to lie down on those grasses and gaze out at the vista. Nicely done, once again. Harry Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted February 17, 2009 Thanks Ton, Michael, Harry and Jerry. Ton, do you mean crop the right side as Harry mentions? Don't know how I missed that chopped tree on the right. Harry, the sky looks as close to blue as I think it should. Is your monitor calibrated? I eye-dropped different areas of the sky to make sure I was not getting a mix of yellow or green. In fact the clouds are leaning red in the upper portions. Sky and skin tones are two colors that are hard to get right for everyone's interpretation. I will check my monitor to see if I am off! harrylichtman 0 Posted February 17, 2009 Mark - It's probably my monitor, not yours. Maybe my skies look a little off and I didn't realize it! My monitor has not been calibrated in a while. I do see the reds in the clouds, though. Harry Link to comment
camilo.margeli 1 Posted February 17, 2009 Hi Mark, I like very much this one. May be is a good Idea to crop the tree on the right, and imo I like very much if you transform it in a panoramic format cropping on the middle of the sky. I see the photo very nice of colours too. Cheers. Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted February 22, 2009 Nicely seen and captured. Guess I would go with the majority here in saying the tree on the right could go. Having said that it still does not take away from the overall splendor of your shot...RAY Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted February 22, 2009 Hello Camilo and "Lefty". The majority wins in a landslide, and for good reason. The distant tree on the right should never have been included. I have resubmitted and you should see the change when you clear your browsers cache. Harry, I printed this the other day using custom profiles and the print is actually leaning red in the clouds. Depending on the atmosphere, I think some skies are actually cyan if it is lighter in density. I am like you, I don't like greenish skies and try to avoid that. Link to comment
mhvetbo 0 Posted March 13, 2009 I love this photo. The snowy hills remind me of December in New Zealand. I suppose this is somewhere in the USA but it would be nice to know! Congrats on a great photograph! Cheers from Armstrong BC Canada! Michael. Link to comment
floris2 0 Posted April 3, 2009 This is awesome! Thanks for the kind words on my foothills shot, yes that was my first time in the area there. You have some really great stuff from the central valley. I particularly like this one for the layers, and mix of seasons - spring and winter with warm summer like light makes for a strong impact. I really want to get out and do some more exploring in the rolling hills, just hate all those fences! Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted April 4, 2009 Thanks Michael and Floris! I now know that these hills are at their prime during February and March. Dec through Feb is our wet season, and because it is fairly mild here, the mountains can green up dramatically. Add some snow and you have a rich contrast. This image was taken on a superb day for shooting, everything happened right for me! Link to comment
