dara 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Just a few thoughts about this photo.... "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted". Matthew 5:4..... She sells what is called “Hafez Fal” or fortune letters….one buys them and in them there are some verses from the famous 14th century Persian poet Hafiz.... (Hafiz of Shiraz) that among other things supposedly tells something of your fortune (traditionally people believe this, but there is much more to it, such as reading beautiful lyrical poetry and getting inspired and enlightened by it) there is also always a translation in simple everyday Persian (Farsi) for the ignorant few, or those who are just plain lazy to bother themselves to read the poetical old Persian verses and make sense of it….. I came across her and I watched her for a long time from the shadows, but all the time she was bent in the same posture covered like that- hiding….I don’t know why she hides…..(I have my own thoughts/ ideas but I won’t get into it here….) after I made my photograph…..I bought a letter but gave her money for more letters.….Anyway she doesn’t beg she sells fortune letters……perhaps the unfortunate know something about fortunes that the fortunate don’t…..she just prayed for me as I walked away….I have never seen her again since that day.
