For me John you needed to work on your foreground, there is not a lot going on there. Not knowing the place but could you have got a bit more down stream and brought some big boulders into the foreground. As wet as it might be could you have got down behind the log and used it as foreground. Maybe you could have moved to eiter side and framed your shot instrad with the cliffs leading to the water fall.

 

I know it's very difficult getting the detail into black/dark cliffs and still keeping the whit water from over exposing but you could try a graded filter at different angles.

 

in the left hand side of the pool there looks to be some redish coloured leaves floating, i would have headed that way for your photo as they would contrast nicely with the green moss and white water.

 

John, your out there in the healthy outdoors and that's why I like photography. Keep it up great work.
