John Peri 1,007 Posted March 12, 2009 Wonderfully reminiscent of the old masters' works of the last few centuries, most strikingly of the Flemish School of the mid 16th century. A wonderfully expresive portrait, truly superb, bravo. Link to comment
wmc718 3 Posted March 28, 2009 Well, if there wasn't a category for "Nude Portraits," there is now! I like it! Link to comment
John Peri 1,007 Posted April 18, 2009 A PN member on your front page referred to this work and misquoted me. Though his remark has now been removed, I feel it useful to add some clarification. As you know from my visits to your portfolio, I am in deep admiration of your original and markedly artistic approach. Indeed you photograph every day people, alike myself, but you place them sometimes in a context that in style and expression is reminiscent to me of work of the old masters, a movement started by the Van Eycks around the middle of the 15th century, but more largely considered today as work that scans over a period of around 400 years. Gustave Courbet for example adopted the style well into the 19th century. In this style, women, as in your photos, were often portrayed as being quite opulent, fully exposed and sometimes involved in everyday cultural activities or amorous play, accompanied by elaborately coloured props of the time ... flowers, food, isolated bits of clothing etc., As for the picture above, anybody familiar with the work of Goya may find some similarity, I certainly do, it's what set off my response in the first place! Thank you once again Rudolf for being such an inspiration and thank you also for your frequent visits to my portfolio that I very much appreciate. Best wishes, John Link to comment
