wmhoodphoto 0 Posted February 7, 2009 Wonderful image. Nicely exposed and composed. I especially like the color reflected in the water. Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted February 7, 2009 Very painterly Richard. I would like to see a push of the white point to reveal some specular highlights, but so minor a critique. This as well as many of your others has an HDR appearance. They usually look better at full resolution, but appear flat at web res. Very good work! Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted February 7, 2009 Thank you very much, Ovidiu, William and Mark! Mark, the monitor seems to make a huge difference. I post process my images on a 24 inch iMac with Aperture. I check everything in a full-screen view before I convert the NEF image to JPEG for posting. These always have a different look on my Toshiba laptop and my Acer computer at work. I appreciate your kind comment. Oh, the snow is such a delicate balance in these images. I think that if I would have taken this about 15 or 20 minutes later it would have had a completely different look. Best regards, Dick Link to comment
stp 6 Posted February 9, 2009 Wonderful light and tones -- the epitome of winter calm. Regarding Mark's observation, I think that some images simply (and naturally) lack a range of tones and are therefore somewhat "flat." For this image, I think it should be somewhat flat; I'd hate to see processing that greatly accentuated the color and presence of the shrubs and colors in the water (although that would be possible). To my eye, this particular image looks entirely natural, and it's what the eye would have seen. I can appreciate Mark's concern; I usually see it in the opposite direction, however, in which a place that has great variation in depth of tones has been rendered uniformly flat, with the depth of tones gone. rarmstrong 0 Posted February 12, 2009 Thank you very much, Liz! This creek is something that most everyone passes daily without a thought. Beauty lurks in the most unassuming places! Best regards, Dick Link to comment
