timzeipekis 5 Posted February 4, 2009 You've really got a handle on the portraits. I've been impressed with every one! I don't know much about the "rules of portraiture" though so I will not even begin to critique the technical aspects. What I can say is that I'm impressed! I love the tight crop and the DOF/focus combination gives a great three dimensional look to it. You've become a double-threat photographer! Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted February 4, 2009 Thank you, Tim! I have no experience with portraits and I certainly haven't studied the "rules", but I was lucky this past weekend to have some willing subjects and a chance to try out a few things. I'm pretty timid about asking people if I can take their picture. My family indulges me:-) I don't get to use my Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens very much, but the more I use it, the more I like it. I really appreciate your kind comments! Dick Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted February 4, 2009 Excellent, but as a neophyte portrait shooter myself I won't get too technical. I just like the composition of this candid portrait and the exposure is right on, besides it's a fun shot that will spark family comments for years. Now, as for this "willing subject", I'll let this gentleman answer that when he wakes up... Mike Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks, Mike! If you look closely, you can just barely see the beginning of a smile on his lips. This is my brother-in-law. He has a face with a lot of character and has been one of my willing subjects on several occasions(see "Ray with bee" in the Sisu Ho-Ho folder in my portfolio). He stayed very still for about another six shots then started to laugh. We had a lot of fun this past weekend. Have a good day! Dick Link to comment
