I like the little red tree on the left but I'm not sure how much it

adds to the image. This is uncropped from the original 4x5 chrome; is

there a better way or should I leave well enough alone? Regards.

I think this is just right. Do not crop, as the little tree on the left is an important composition part (IMHO). Besides, sharpness, colours and light are nice and the result is a very beautiful picture.

Me too think that this looks good as it is. If you were to crop, there seems to be lesser elements of interest. The red tree actually adds a lively colourful componet to this Autumn scene.

You can't, shouldn't and must not crop the little red tree. A wonderful image with clever framing from the large old tree. Great shot Walter!

Walter, I don't think there is anything wrong with the whole frame. Something seems to attract me eye nearer to the top of the frame, which if you are looking for an alternative crop, my suggestion would be to crop out just enough to take out the light area at the top of the image, amongst the leaves of the tree. Don't know, I would have to stare at it for a few days to be sure. I wish I had better editing skills. Very nice image - Sean

Okay kids, thank you ALL for your feedback on this. Sean, perhaps that is what I am seeing as well...the pull of my eye upwards. If I scroll the large size view (monitor at 1600x1200) so that the top of the image rests just below the darker overhanging leaves in the upper left I get more of a sense of intimacy with the foreground and little falls. I like that, but unfortunately I like the sweep of the large old tree too. If I crop the top I lose that. If I crop the left so that the frame is just to the left of the adjacent yellow tree I seem to get a similar intimacy (but I like the red tree too). I guess this is a situation where I can't have my cake and eat it too! I probably should have used a higher tripod position and tilted down a bit then adjust the front lens board to compensate. Regards.

It's been a while since I've stopped by your portfolio, but I'm pretty sure you've had a camera upgrade. Still using the Pentax, or has 4x5 got you in its grasp now?

On an unrelated note, do you have any idea what that tree is on the right? I've seen them now and again on my travels south of the border and they always stick in my mind for their camo-like bark.

Cheers,

Aaron

Walter:

I tried adding a bit of green to the midtones of this one--changing the gamma of the green channel in Levels to 1.06. IMO, this made the rocks look a little more rock-like, and increased (again, IMO only) the color purity a tiny bit.

As to the crop, I definitely like it as it is. Very good scan btw.

Frankly I would not crop this at all. That corner of open sky plus the red tree balance out the the tree on the right hand side. This has a very nice range of colors. The foreground leaves in the water are a big plus.

Wonderful colours, well framed, nice speed showing the fluidity of the water and the assembly of leaves floating at the front really is the icing on the cake, great shot.

Walter,, Great job with the colors. There are so many color contrast in this image. Nice combination of movement of the water and stillness of the remaining elements. Great composition. Congrats.

Hi ...

I like this picture ... wonderful composition ...etc... But for my eyes is something wrong ... Maybe if you would flip the source image from left to right it could be better for my crazy eyes... :-) I am joking ...or maybe not .. That red tree is just in the right place there... wonderful image ....

regards,

A
