wingell 0 Posted January 27, 2009 Situated on a hillside near Elmira, NY, this tiny cemetery holds the graves of soldiers who fought with General John Sullivan in his "scorched earth" campaign to punish native Americans who sided with the British in the Revolutionary War. The Sullivan Campaign, including the Battle of Newtown fought at this site, is considered by historians to be one of the turning points in the revolutionary struggle.
