jeffl7 0 Posted January 27, 2009 Those sparkles on the water meld perfectly with the pattern on the loon's back. I think the pose is great. Link to comment
soniam 6 Posted January 28, 2009 BEAUTIFUL! I have a soft spot for loons and they are very difficult to photograph because they seem so shy. This is really beautiful. Well composed and great colours. Link to comment

ldavidson 4 Posted February 1, 2009 Jeff, thank you. Sonia, yes, you are right they are shy and don't like to get close to humans. This one had two babies and she was more concerned about keeping her eye on them than worrying about me. Thanks for your comments. Andrea, this was one of those perfect (dreamy) days on the water. Thank you. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted February 6, 2009 One of my favourite canoeing and kayaking companions. I love the cry and the vision of these majestic creatures . The way these vanish below the surface only to cut the surface tension and reappear seamlessly at another point moments later, they are integral to the poetry that is life on the water. I find inspiration in your capture as well as a longing for the ice to clear and the motion to return to the waters surface. Such a lovely dance you have swept up with your lens. As you mentioned, they are very doting parents constantly keeping and eye on their little charges, gathering them on their backs and scurrying off at the least sign of danger. Link to comment
