whydangle 0 Posted January 18, 2009 The Midway-Sunset Oil Field in Central California is one of the largest oil fields in the U.S. Much of the oil extracted from here is very viscous in nature because the less viscous oil has already been pumped from this site. As oil is pumped, the reduction in pressure will also cool the remaining oil, which then begins to solidify. Therefore, in order to pump what remains, it must be heated. One method is to pump steam into the ground near the higher concentrations of this thick sludge. As the oil is heated, it migrates to open wells that are drilled near the steam well. The steam lines above the ground are insulated with fiber and then wrapped in an aluminum shell, much like insulated hot water lines in some homes. I spent an hour one morning last week studying a grouping of steam lines as the sun rose. Please take some time to view the folder and offer some feedback. Thanks for your time! Link to comment

fishit 0 Posted January 18, 2009 I think you timed or angled the camera just about as well as you can to get the effect desired in the title. The golden light did a nice glow look on the steel. Link to comment
javier_soto2 0 Posted January 20, 2009 Magnifica, ese contraste entre lo natural y lo artificial es estupendo. Los tonos de atardecer una pasada. Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted January 20, 2009 Thanks Dennis, Ray and Javier. I appreciate the input, unlike the 3/3 rater who makes his or her mark and then runs like hell! Kind of like Photo.Net graffiti. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted January 21, 2009 Like a giant metal hand with the fingers tickling the sun... excellent vision to see the possibilities in this setting... Mike You must be getting old and cranky... you know to ignore the 3/3er's :) Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted January 22, 2009 Thanks Mike. A 3/3 is like a tomato in the face. Ya know, I love tomatoes in my salad. Throw me some more! Please! More! Link to comment
