The mist from the falls freezes on everything along the river. The color comes from

tannins in the water. Please view larger, thank you!

A really nice image DIck, the low tones make the image appear what it probably was ,very cold.Hope you had a hand warmer. Warm Regards-Ross

Wow, it looks nearly identical to the photograph that was selected for January, week three in the National Geographic Daily Dozen, same spot different view, and different time of day, though. Fantastic photo!

Thank you very much, Ross, Tim, Michael, George and Laura! I was very much hoping for morning sunlight here, but it became cloudy and began to snow on my way to the falls. Today was sunny...oh well, there will be other days.

Best regards,

Dick

Laura, I checked out the shot posted in the National Geographic daily dozen. It is from exactly the same spot, only with the sunlight that I was hoping for:-)!

Gee Dick, I don't know, it was a very cold day & this image creates that impression. You have a good tonal range in your snow with the occasinal fairly bright white for a good reference point to compare the other tones.Back in my B&W days & could say in a way this is a B&W we understood you always needed a good black & a good white. This print, my friend, has depth & character .Warm regards-Ross

Ross, thank you once again for the kind comments! It was soooo cold and I do believe that this image looks cold!

Milena, it is a beautiful spot. I was there alone, early in the morning with the falls roaring just to the right of me. As I was getting my camera out, a huge chunk of ice fell from the falls into the river. It startled me and I wished that I'd had the camera focused on the falls to catch the moment.

Best regards,

Well, Dick, it's beautiful and I rather like the tone of the sky. it matches those beautiful, mineral rich icicles, and the 'heaviness' of all that snow.

Thank you, Jean-Marc, Ross and Laura! I still want to return here in the sunlight. Maybe on a day that's just a bit warmer:-)

Leslie, thank you very much for stopping by. I had visions of the early morning sun lighting up the falls which face the southeast. But, the sky became cloudy before sunrise and it began to snow lightly. I'm going to try again for sunrise, soon.

Best regards,

Dick
