cjtj50 0 Posted January 15, 2009 I see you reposted with a crop, this is very nice also but I like the other better. This is a great rustic dock. Hope your toes stayed warm ;). Take care Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted January 16, 2009 I'd love to hear honest critiques on this one, thanks! Link to comment
chrisvest 1 Posted January 17, 2009 okay, honestly: you've got a pretty nice piece here; the gun barrel effect of the composition is made more interesting by the 'hogarth' curve suggested by patterns across the water beneath. the shimmering floating ice and angled shadows make us feel the push and pull of solar heat and earthly frigidity. it strikes me as fairly hard-edged in it's mostly 3 toned palette which- except for the sky- is texturally coarse. i like it overall, to me it's about perspective and climate. cheers, chris. tonmestrom 4 Posted January 17, 2009 I don't think you'll be surprised that I like this one, a lot in fact. Effectively composed, in very good b&w, great light and some nice structure and texture is all that is needed to produce a very good photo which this is. Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted January 17, 2009 Thank you both for the critiques, and I'm happy you like it. This shot is bit of a cliche', so I was unsure how to approach it and make it my own. Thanks for the positive feedback! Link to comment
bob_belanger 1 Posted January 17, 2009 Awesome B&W, the lighting and dynamic range are very eye catchning. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted January 17, 2009 there's never anything cliche about a good photo Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted January 18, 2009 No sign of life on this frozen beach. I like how you lead us out and through the scene. Link to comment
ingermargrete 0 Posted January 18, 2009 Very nice. I like the text alot, makes this a unique image. Great light and tones also:) Link to comment
s._lee_cashman 0 Posted February 1, 2009 Tim, while I can certainly see how this shot *could* have been a cliche, you've handily avoided that. A wonderful image that begs for a one-way staring contest. I just can't stop looking. I like everything about this image - right down to the slight tilt of the dock in the frame. Was it HDR'd, btw? timzeipekis 5 Posted February 1, 2009 Yes it is an HDR, not so much for the dynamic range because I probably could have captured the entire range in one frame. But the HDR seems to bring out textures in a way that really pleases me. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate you taking the time! Link to comment
