Earthly Fire

harrylichtman

The sun had set over Balance Rock near the Window section of Arches, and the 2nd half of the light show began. Clouds caught on fire, followed by an increasing red glow to the rocks. I was giddy. Turret Arch can be seen just to the left of the right FG monolith. While these colors are intense, I have tired to reproduce them as faithfully as possible, as it is easy to overdue the red rock. My technique is to compare the image directly after capture, adjust white balance and saturation/tone etc. to match the scene. Usually, only WB needs adjustment. I find if difficult to faithfully reproduce colors a week (or more) later as my memory is not that good.

The setting sun lit up the clouds above the La Sals during my final

evening in Arches. The monoliths, while not the intense reds I

witnessed a few minutes earlier, began to glow as the sun sank lower

on the horizon. I wasn't crazy about the lack of space at the bottom of

the frame, but I wanted to avoid people, cars, and roads. Comments

welcome.

Beautiful landscape photograph of Balancing Rock and the Manti-La Sals. I love the composition and the color palette. Great light, Amigo! I have enjoyed your Arches and Canyonlands photos a lot! Cheers! Chris

Great Photograph ! I love the overall tones and balance in the composition. I have never been to Arches NP, but now it is on my must do list. 6/6
