Nimitz Japanese Peace Garden

robertbrown

Shot in in a very dark corner of this somewhat ironic garden. Contrast readjusted in photoshop to match print. Developed and printed in home darkroom.

Comments, ratings, suggestions appreciated on this black and white

print. I took the picture for two reasons: 1) the irony of a Japanese

peace at the Nimitz Memorial, and 2) the great lines and textures of

ropes, bamboo, and post. Developed and printed in my rudimentary home

darkroom. Thanks.

that is an excellent photography! i wonder what would happen if there would be a little bit of dark sky in the right top corner (red filter).

This picture, as I find it, is rated 8.91 in Aesthetics, and 8.64 in originality... I decided not to rate it for the time being... but here is my opinion... I see 2 ropes (horizontally) and a vertical pattern of plants... It isn't extremely sharp, but it is reasonably sharp... It is properly exposed, and it is graphically ok, and almost reasonably well composed I guess.

Now may I ask, what makes it almost the most beautiful picture on this site, and what makes it one of the most original pictures in Photo.net ? I can't figure that out by myself... Regards.

Who said it is the best? It is very good. Considerably better than many overdone photos (like my own stuff ;-). The sharpness and the contrast go together to create an impressive result. It gives you this "I can reach and touch it" feeling.

This alone is a great reason to give a high rating - the author used a very simple subject and yet made a powerful photo.

Remember, C-41 psudo B/W film is just one step away from digital so (amature consumers) don't coplain when you can't find good film anylonger. Besides, a C-41 print can be spotted from across the room.

I have visited this spot. What is a more interesting subject is the memorial wall nearby. One of the picture plaques shows the first US military photographer to enter Hiroshima.

I always visit the Nimitz museum when I head over to Fredericksburg (about once a year on a shooting expedition). It's one of my favorite places. This is very nice - I love the contrast of the ropes versus the foliage behind it. All of us sweating in our bathroom darkrooms salute you!
