t37traveler 0 Posted January 31, 2009 Leonid- In looking at this photo I ask myself, what was the photographer trying to capture or express?" I am left with the feeling, ' a rose amid a bunch of leaves....OK, ... and....? so..? next photo please.' This photo does not make me want to spend time looking at it. The main subject occupies a small amount of space in the overall composition. The light center of the rose is also a bit over-exposed. The rose-buds on the right offer the only other dash of bright color; my eye is pulled toward the small spots of red because the main subject just isn't a strong enough element to overcome the color distraction. The leaves create an overall busy pattern that does not enhance the large rose. The light is flat except where the rose is over-exposed. Originality of composition is just not present, and the aesthetics could definitely be improved. It is more what I call an ID picture - something you would find a "Guide to Garden Flowers" book. Try leaving out more of the unimportant surroundings and concentrating the photo on the element that has really caught your eye and made you want to push the shutter. (Compare this to your dew drops on spider web series of photos, and I think you'll understand the basis of my comments and why I have such lack of response to this photo (especially compared to the dew drop series).
