Here's a shot that illustrated a metropolitan newspaper's article on

the closing of a sauerkraut factory in upstate New York. This farmer

said that next spring he will have to plow under this 25-acre field of

now-frozen cabbage, which he had expected to be able to sell to the

closed processing plant. Comments and critiques are always welcomed.

Thanks...Bill

I like the oddness of this--the juxtaposition of cabbage and snow is surprising. When taken out of the context it was intended for it becomes surreal.

Thanks for stopping by, Dan. I know what you mean about the "surreal" scene. The job was pretty surreal, too: it was in the low 20s with a 30-mile-an-hour wind blowing. This fellow farms 2,500 acres between Geneva and Rochester, so he'll survive the $40,000 loss on this cabbage patch, but he and other growers in the area are worried about next year if the processing plant remains closed. Regards...Bill

Especially in these times, I keep thinking isn't there someone someway these food sources can be salvaged? Fertilizer seems a waste.
