You really use your "gun" to shoot people down, and it seems like you enjoy doing that too. If your real job is not a policeman, it must be your dream then...at least...virtually. Just make sure to spend your energy on the right matter for yourself; otherwise, it's just a childish game.

I have a reason not to rate any photo. The 2 photos i rated were way back when i just started on PN. The fact of the matter is that i don't feel i have the capacity or body of knowledge wide or deep enough to rate any photo.I HAVE CHOSEN TO LEAVE COMMENTS INSTEAD. After all, ART IS VERY SUBJECTIVE TO ME, and i will leave comments on what i can identify with or draw my attention for whatever reason.

Due to lack of time lately, i have not much chance to leave comments to my friends' artwork as i wish to; hence, i do not expect the same amount of correspondences as i used to. I agree with you, Danny, it's much more fun to give and take. My apology to my fellow photographers who have continued to leave comments despite the fact that i don't often leave comments anymore.

Besides the 2 previous rated photos, i am not and i will not ever rate any more photo. I will continue to leave comments as much as i possibly can. I love communicating to my friends here on photonet.

TO ALL, HAVE A HAPPY AND CREATIVE NEW YEAR 2009.

First I’ve looked at your portfolio and I invite any other PN member to do the same and judge for them selves, you have the knowledge and the experience you are an advanced camera worker.

Second point lack of time if you have the time to post you have the time to rate simple.

Third point if you do not intend ever rate any other PN member then don’t ask us to rate yours,. next time you post an image of critique mark it critique only then PN members can only comment.

I just like fair play I find some PN members receive many ratings by others and end up in Top-Rated-Photos but have not rated many in return. We would all like the same chance to reach the heights of PN - it’s just no right to see one way traffic

I've never really cared much about the rating of my images, so it was natural for me to forget that the rating system was even there. All i've ever wanted was to share my artwork with friends who enjoy chatting with me. That's all to it.

Danny! Best of luck with your rate hunting and policing the system. I still feel that it's wiser to use your time to work on your photography than gunning at others. In any case, your artwork technically is excellent, and i really admire that. I hope you will be recognized as you deserve to be.

Best regards, Tanya.

We all contribute what we like, when and if we feel like it, it's then for others to reciprocate or not according to how they feel. It would be awful if it was an imposition.

Tanya has contributed over 1600 comments on PN photos and another 80 almost on people's portfolio's, which is not only well above average, but substantially more than others who are on the site as long as her and may think badly of her rating.

Most importantly, she lets us look at how she views the world through her camera and she allows her feelings to be known, both through the intimate nature of her work and by the manner in which she perceives other people's. I am particularly impressed furthermore by her willingness to expose herself in autoportraits, which is a rare, a generous and unselfish thing to do. I for one am someone that very much appreciate Tanya's presence on PN.

A charming photo Tanya. I like the high key approach but find that it may be just a little ovverdone in this case. However the colouring and the composition, glasses included, are delightful.

Have the "Ratings Police" invaded this site as well?

I've already stopped visiting one other web site for just the same reason. So many people spent so much time discussing the number of critiques and ratings that had been made there was an increasingly less amount of discussion done on the quality of the photography that was present there.

I have so much more to learn than I have to teach, so why should I be judged on the number of times I click something.

I will comment on this particular photograph, however. I REALLY like the feeling that I get from it. It's almost like I have stepped outside into extremely bright sunshine, and I am squinting at the beautiful, little girl.

for leaving your thoughts here. It's a surprise to me that quite a few people spend time doing unnecessary things instead of using it to work on their art and sharing with others. It's almost like finding ways to destroy a neighbor's home just because the neighbor is wealthier instead of using that energy to build his/her own home.

Thanks John and Cliff for commenting on this photo. John! I know i overdid it, and i intended that way. Like Cliff, i love that feeling of seeing the girl in the immerse sunlight. This photo brings positive energy to me the way it is. soooo...whao la...;o).

I think the New Year is a time for goodwill to all.

The only thing I will say with regards to ratings is that if a certain percentage of PN members choose not to rate, this will not affect in any way the choice of photos that climb the charts, since the ones that do climb up or not are exposed to exactly the same number of people rating on the site. So it makes strictly no difference who or how many people rate or not.

However, there is a special forum on PN for discusing such issues and I think the mattter should in future be discussed there. With regards. John

for reminding others there are forums for certain issues, and that is where the subject matters should be discussed in length.

Who knows! One day...i might rate every photo i will come across just because...i like to do so....;o). On the same token, like you mentioned, it will not be an act of imposition.

Janusz, Happy New Year 2009 to you too :o).

I’ve taken stock of all that’s been said. I know the way I’ve set out on my crusade has not gone down well with some PN members, I thought this the best way to reach the main offenders. It might not be the ethical the way it was my way - if anybody wishes to complain feel free PN are very good at dealing with complaints I speak from first hand experience It’s easy to look back now and think there might be a better way.

I thank Tanya for keeping her dignity throughout our exchange you are a class act.

I will take a step back. And consider my next move if any.

Happy New Year All - I'm not all Bad - just 60%
