alight 0 Posted January 5, 2009 well, in that case I'm glad we are not what we eat or drink, as I could look like a round plastic bottle with a red cap. Dude, how do you come up with these wacky photos? Great catch. Like the B&W. That shiny fire hydrant is a little bit distracting. Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
janusz1 0 Posted January 5, 2009 Great Document...Somewhat sarcastic with the Title :)... but otherwise it wouldn't be You :) Happy New Year :) !!! Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 5, 2009 I was gallery sitting at the coop gallery I belong to when I spied these two crossing the street outside. I grabbed my camera, but they were almost out of range for the 200mm. And, a few more steps and they would have been outside the view of the window. Two quick snaps and they were down the street and walking away from me. It wasn't until I got home and opened this that I realized the great look on the guy with the poncho. It's as if he is mimicking the guy on the poncho. Originally I was attracted to the colorful garb they were wearing, but I decided the black and white would emphasize the look of the guy and his poncho. I agree with you about the fire hydrant, and maybe should try to do something about it. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks. I did not know that the figure on the poncho was Pacino until someone advised me of it this morning. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks for looking. Yes, I do have a rather strong case of sarcasm. I hope it's not fatal. I know it's not curable. ☺ Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted January 5, 2009 it so nice that the guy has a strange face expression as in the poncho...you found Poncho Villa, oups Pancho Villo...well you know what I mean..... Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 5, 2009 Thanks. Well, I admitted to not knowing what I found. But, you bet, I'll take credit for that. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted January 5, 2009 I bet he gets a sore jaw if he walks around mimicking his poncho all day. I like all the weird distractions in the scene, the back end of the car and the hydrant work for me. That's one strange looking hydrant it looks like a Dalek from Dr. Who. On second thought perhaps a guy who has never seen the Bugs Bunny & Roadrunner Show may have missed Dr. Who as well. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 5, 2009 Nailed me again! Dr Who? I think I'm starting to understand where that lovable weirdness that is you comes from. Well, at my age, they start looking for a second childhood like behavior, so, if I'm going to go that route, maybe I'll catch up on that stuff. Maybe not. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted January 5, 2009 It is such a good timing even though you nearlly missed them, it still is a strong and funny couple, especially the front one with his face that looks like a replica of the Poncho face.... and the fanny foot that looks nearly unconnected to his body. The fire tool and car behind are playing as kind of a frame, and I like the diagonal line in the FG ,middle, vs. the BG horizontals. Thinking of the short time from observing them and photographing them, you were fast enough! ...;-)) Good as well is the B/W conversion. Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted January 5, 2009 Yesss..! I agree hundred per cent. " We are what we wear." very good capture David. Cheers; Bela Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted January 5, 2009 If you're going to catch up on Dr. Who I hope you have a lot of spare time in this second childhood you are planing. That show has been on the BBC fro more than 45 years and it is still making new episodes today. As a child the TV was almost always on at my house and I watched quite a bit, mainly Sci-fi, nature shows and cartoons. When I left home I did not even own a TV for decades. I now have a TV but it is seldom on, unless there are any good cartoons, nature shows or new episodes of Dr. Who on to watch. I'm not sure of where the weirdness came from, but I do know that it arrived early and still shows no signs of abating. I've attached a Dalek for comparison purposes with the hydrant. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted January 5, 2009 I want that poncho. You're turning into a streetshooter yet Dave ;-) Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 6, 2009 Did you say, "street shooter," or "straight shooter?" Well thanks. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 6, 2009 Thanks. At the time I thought I was too late. But once I got it on the screen, I was content. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 6, 2009 Well, those Dalek fellows seem like a perfectly likable sorts. And well dressed to boot. I continue to benefit from your encyclopedic knowledge. I wonder if pay per view is showing Wiley Coyote cartoons...... Link to comment
jbm 0 Posted January 6, 2009 This just about poops platinum, totally awesome. How much more of a statement could you desire...Scarface on the cover of a sarape. The apocalypse is near. Well exposed, vut the shoes look funny. Cheers, Jay Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 6, 2009 "Poops platinum?????" Now that's a new one. You guys just keep my learning curve so high that it's a wonder I don't fall over when I get up out of this chair. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 6, 2009 Great, ironic catch. I think everything you want to say is captured in the photo. It's very much got your stamp and I particularly notice the matter-of-factness both in their demeanor and with which you've shot. They are unaware, busy, in stride, and unself-conscious. It seems on the light side to me, like the upper and mid levels have been raised, especially on the greenery in the background. I'm more drawn to his white frock (with no detail) than the fire hydrant, which is also starkly handled. I don't really get what that loss of detail accomplishes here. I guess a darker road and greenery would allow the whites to spark even if they still maintained a little detail. There's enough realism, even documentary feel here, to suggest that these white areas may be working at odds with the image itself. I wonder if the irony wouldn't be even stronger if the technique were handled more matter-of-factly. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted January 6, 2009 A sad commentary on modern fashion. Very sad. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted January 7, 2009 The glow on the poncho is a bit blinding. Perhaps he doesn't want you to see him coming. Then again, perhaps he does. I suppose we are all walking billboards communicating something, often selling ourselves. I wonder what the internal dialogue was for this young man when he decided "today is a good day to pull out my Al Pacino poncho and walk around town." Where does one buy an Al Pacino poncho anyways? bosshogg 4 Posted January 7, 2009 Thanks for your comments. I have to admit I don't quite understand what you are suggesting about the image. Too much contrast? Just darkening with levels? Lack of detail in highlights? Could you elaborate for me in simple terms? Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted January 7, 2009 Tranquilo! There are far worse statements out on the mean streets. Link to comment
