don_gallagher 22 Posted January 5, 2009 The statue is a very appropriate prop. Nice photo Link to comment
jpo3136b 0 Posted January 6, 2009 Good photo. I've never seen anything like this before, with the way you've captured a bird and a statue. I think we've all seen birds perched on top of statues; but, with the body position of the bird, and the structure of the statue, I think this one has some originality in its flavor. Good use of selective focus to concentrate on the subject. Good overall balance of exposure, hue and tone. I liked the preservation of the shadow against some of the white tail feathers. Overall detail in the feathers was good. I usually try to leave suggestions for improvement; but, I think this was such a rare shot that it's unlikely that you'd be able to go back and shoot it again. I guess for improvements, would be to crop some variations and see which ones you like the best. Overall, good job. J. Link to comment
alight 0 Posted January 6, 2009 this is a fantastic catch. The sharpness and detail are amazing. Is the blue jay from another planet, that it dwarfs the poor dude? Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
cromwell1664877587 0 Posted January 6, 2009 Thanks everybody. John, getting these shots really wasn't too difficult. Once they all knew there was food in there, anyway. I'm sure I have hundreds of pics of the blue jays at St. Francis. After I put peanuts in there, you had to shoo them away....not that I did. I have a couple more blue jay pics, 2 cardinals, 1 house finch, and 1 sparrow in my portfolio. I also have a wren, chickadee, and goldfinch that isn't worth posting. I shot this awhile back, and after running across it the other day, I thought I'd post-process and post it. Since then, I've moved from having a backyard on the south side of the house to one with the backyard on the north side, so that pretty much ended my bird shooting. All my bird pics are taken from inside shooting through the window, so now it's shady a few feet out except for an hour or two a day in the summer. Link to comment
