Hi Fred,

I think this is my favorite of your photos that are posted here. The color and lighting are lackluster, which might sound like an insult, but that works perfectly here. Before I saw the title I thought "What a peacful place". I wasn't distracted by extreme lighting or brilliant colors. I was drawn into the frame which in my opinion makes an excellent photograph. After looking at this for a while I feel like I've walked around that grave yard a few times. Very nice.

Thanks for the comment Jason. You hit the image right on the head with your comments. Here's where the concept came from. I had this shot, and tried some layering techniques to boost it in interest. That worked a bit, but then I realized why I was drawn to the picture. My Mom had a similar image (although NOT a cemetery) from a friend that she always kept on her dresser. IT was a very subdued, but alluring image. I doubt I succeeded in making that level of a composition, but I thought this image could be an effort at reproducing that feeling. The weakness to me is the flat area in the right upper center. This is actually spanish moss hanging from a tree. I countered that by boosting the flower colors in the bush to the left. Then a little glow effect was added.

Hi Fred,

I haven't heard from you in a while. I like what is happening in this photo. When I saw it in thumbnail I thought it was an entranceway into a garden and wondered what was behind the gate. Imagine my surprise when I saw it larger. I kind of want it a little sharper so that I can read the marker on the right (when I thought this was a building I would have cropped it out.) Maybe just a little brighter color in the roses, and you could probably lose the buildings in the background - not sure they add anything and this would keep you in the place not pull you out. Just some thoughts. Graveyards can be such an interesting subject because you can look at them in so many ways.

Very effective with the soft touches and blending colors. The compositon is very good. Nicely done!
