Such a beautiful little guy, wish he would have opened his eyes. Really good detail. I'm guessing you used a some type of flash light?

To Monte: No flashlight was used, Sun lit only.

 

I do have many photos of this guy with his eyes open. This was taken mid blink. I just liked the feel of this image.

I recently saw a screech owl up close, which was quite a thrill, really a cute little guy. I have yet to see a saw whet, which as you say is even smaller. How fortunate to catch him/her in the sun and I do see the appeal of the midway blink. Btw I think you are pretty much at the top of the list of bird photographers.
