drache 0 Posted December 25, 2008 In the hostel... I wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year!!! Link to comment
ned1 0 Posted December 26, 2008 Is this the color balance you wanted? It's very hard to critique colors on a monitor. Link to comment
drache 0 Posted December 26, 2008 Thank you Edward. Yes, I know that the colours are not right, this is what I wanted. The light came from fluorescent tubes on the top and I didn't used a filter to correct the colour temperature. Thats the reason for the green inside the picture but I think it suits to the cool atmosphere in the picture. Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Pretty model. Odd green cast. Strange setting. Purpose? Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted December 28, 2008 Steffen, firstly I like the fact that you put here in these surrondings. The background works very nice as does her posture. About that colour cast then, it's your photo and therefore your choice but I think you made the wrong one because I find it decidely unattractive. Apart from that you've got a lot of perspective problems going on in your background that I find rather distracting. So, while not trying to convince you, you seem apt enough, why not revisit the original again and try some other takes as well and see if you can get more out of this one. It's also a bit noisy and although understandable it's easy to correct ;-) Have a happy New Year or is it ein gutes Neues Jahr? I've attached a worked on version which I know is flawed (there's only so much you can do on a lowres image) but it is a bit cooler and adressed the noise and perspective problem just to give you yet another take. drache 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Barry and Ton, thank you very much! As I told to Edward, I like the wrong, cool colours because it suits to the atmosphere there. It shall be a bit strange... The green is a result of not using a filter to correct the light, this picture was made on film, this is not a digital picture. And thats also the reason why I didn't changed the perspective problems and the "noise" ;-) Well, thank you for the wishes for the next year. I also wish you a happy new year!!! In German: ich wünsche einen guten Rutsch und ein frohes, neues Jahr. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted December 28, 2008 Fair enough. Like I said it's your photo. "this is not a digital picture" by now it is. Scanning can also produce a fair bit of noise. Ein schonen Tag noch. Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted December 28, 2008 Well, if you're using film, then I take it all back! (I like film.) But I am curious; now that you have established that the setting is intentional, I'm wondering if you could explain a bit of the intent of your image. It must be more than just to show off the pretty girl. It's a very drab setting, and yet one I can't recognize. An apartment hallway? An institution? What is the odd structure to the left of the door? How do they all relate to the model? And as to the color cast, you mention that you like it as well (since you could obviously change it after scanning). Is that a comment on the model or the meaning of the image as well? (I don't mean any of this as criticism; I just want to get the artist's thoughts here.) Link to comment
drache 0 Posted December 30, 2008 Ton, yes, you are right... ;-) I think we understand each other... :-) Barry, this picture was taken in the dorm (student hostel) where she is living at the moment. I was fascinated by the cool and clinical atmosphere there, so I didn't correct the colour. She is standing in front of the room of her neighbor, there are three rooms in one flat. On the left of the door is the light switch and the socket. I don't want to interpret my picture, so I give you the room for your own story and thoughts. I hope that this helps you a bit? Sorry, my English is not good enough to explain it all so as I would... Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted December 31, 2008 Thanks for the response! I now understand the picture, and I am very impressed with your English. The picture is really about the environment in which the model lives. Knowing that, it has a very specific meaning for me (having done my time in college dorms, which can be a bit sterile).
