Admittedly not a great photo, but sometimes its more about what the image says than how good it is, or isn't...under the circumstances I did the best I could. This young lady is a student at the School for Deaf Children in Kabul Afghanistan, and I was blessed to be able to attend a performance she and some of her classmates put on here in Kabul. The performance was a series of skits that showcased their talents and amazing ability to communicate without speaking. My heart was deeply touched and in spite of obvious hardships was amazed at the happiness that she displayed...truly inspiring. They say that "the eyes are the window to the soul"...in the case of this young lady, it is clear that this old adage is indeed true.

This is a very good portrait and the fact skin is left as it is natural. The whole picture is in sharp focus and eyes particularly are talking. Good crop.

Your description adds life to the picture. Thanks for sharing you pictures and your experience. Mary Christmas.

A very hypnotic stare by this young woman. Even though her external life maybe not as she would like it to be she has this internal flame to fight on.....superb character portrait with a great evaluation of the scene by you....Regards

Jeff, I can relate to your words. It's funny how we differentiate ourselves from others when we're often more similar than different. Her deafness was likely the result of war; bless her heart for the joy she beings to others.

As for the picture, I brought the saturation down to what I thought was more "natural". B/W might look terrific too.

Merry Christmas, Jeff. :-)

Thanks Michael, these young Afghan kids were indeed an inspiration...if nothing else, my time over here will reinforce to me how good we have it in America and how much we can do to help those less fortunate. I like the tweak you made on this image...it looks better I think. I have an issue with color vision, so when I'm home my wife usually helps me make sure the balance is correct....I thought about B&W, and I may still try it, but her eyes were really what stood out for me. Take care. Jeff.
