There are borders and limits, seen and unseen, and grouping to clear them off....

Thanks for viewing.

The central figure's darkness contrasting with the wispy, light clothing of the rest are fitting nicely. A very pleasant composition showing people caring for...

Fantastic work. I love how they seem draped and ghostly, except for the women in black who seems to be the substantial heart to this entourage.

A very beautiful composition Pnina. I love the way you use the group to highlight the central person and the bended head refusing the attention. You have an eye for such scenes.

I absolutely love the mood... eerie and surreal. The bw is well suited and the composition and tones are great. Cheers.

This is a very strong photo. For me looking more ritual than ghostly. The main character ( both by her position in the composition, but also by the importance of her behaviour in the narrative ( She is the only one faciong us, and all the others are turned to her ) beeing the only one wearing black is the negative expression of what we would usually expect.

And nothing is better when speaking about photography than speaking about negative in a positive way.

For me, that is a strong representation of the feminine power.

take care

I see you're deep into an experimental mode. Here you've struck gold with this amorphous grouping, seemingly drawn together around the woman in the center. She makes a superb central figure; the tilt of her head and the dark clothing make her the natural magnet for the others. I haven't read the other comments yet but I will after I post this. I'd be interested in their interpretation of the scene, whether the group is comforting and supporting the woman in her distress or drawing power from her as the "mother" figure. I vote for the latter but fear I will be in the minority. We shall see.

To all of you, it is a scene that can be interpreted in many ways of impressions. The idea of the dance is about borders, and there are many forms of borders, mentals as well as real. Now, groups can be uplifting, or vs, can be a mental or real "strangling" border.... it is only a point to think about, as it is a fraction of moment here.

I can almost hear the secrets being whispered into the dark robed girls ears. A covenant of some sort is being sworn. The background being blown out works well as I am left with the feeling that this gauze enshrouded affair could be transpiring anywhere. To that end, I would be tempted to dodge or clone out the two lines on the wall as they tend to work against that open ended feeling by tying the scene to a room. The degree of motion is perfect with the greatest sharpness falling precisely where you would want it to be.

I like the mood and group attitude around the black dressed lady....I wonder how it might be with lower level (a bit darker and contrast).....a kind mystic mood....

Linda, thanks

Gord, thanks for your impressions, I think you are right about disconnecting it from the studio bars in order to leave the mystery of what can be ( or not....;-)) a covenant ,I have already corrected it.;-))

Laurent, I tried it darker with more contrast, and liked it softer as it is uploaded, but I'm always glad to hear more suggestions ! and I always try them.... So thanks.

Veils. They have so much influence. We see the world through our individual veils (shall I wear my thick dark one or the airy gauze-like one today?). They also change the perception of ourselves by others. In this case might they be defining and isolating this group from the outside? Veils have a lot of intrigue to them, which you've brought into the image.

Pnina, This is an interesting image...very intriguing. It would appear that the young ladies are comforting the girl wearing black...for some unkown reason..perhaps a lost love?? The slow shutter speed adds character and mytery to this image...and I really like the soft tones and harsh backlight....nicely captured.

Thanks also for stopping by and commenting on one of my recent posts...Ieft an answer to your question under your comment. Regards. Jeff

Excellent b&w capture, Pnina. Quite interesting scene with a ghostly atmosphere. The attitudes, poses and light are great. Very good shot! Regards!

Gordon and Pnina, you exchange on the bars makes me think. I see the background as the weaker part of the scene and composition. As it stands, you almost have the feeling that the group which in compositional terms is admirable is fighting for attention. The opposite should be the case, the background should help immediately to fixate the group and nothing but the group. The almost entirely blown out background is burning my eyes. It would have been more optimal if the entire background had the tone that you find above the heads.

The reason why I did not mention the bars, although I noticed them immediately, was that they help somewhat to balance the mentioned weakness of the set up. The bars fixed the group in the middle as if they were hanged on a string in the emptiness.

All this is highly subjective and is not intended to try to give advice to Pnina on what to do or not to do with this overall very good scene.

Dave, " Veils have a lot of intrigue to them." Thanks for such a well thought comment on this one.I'm intrigued as well on so many aspects they signify. In the last dance rehearsal, dancers were doing improvisation with the nets, an unusual experience that I will post soon some of it.

Jeff K, thanks for your impressions, it is a kind of a scene that can take viewers to such different commentaries, which I find fascinating. ;-))

David O, again, it is interesting how a scene impression is diverse in its reading by deferent viewers, thanks for writing yours.

Andres, thanks for coming again and your detailed impressions. I have had my doubts about the bright BG, but it is how the scene was unfolding in the lighted studio ,and I liked the center of the black dressed dancers, in this bright BG, and "foggi" (in the net) atmpsoher , also the relations with the others.

Thinking about the bars again, you may be right as well, I tried it without them and with them( I kept the original), and I will have to look at it after some time. In general ,even though photographically it may not be perfect, I found it an interesting human scene., and glad to get the different impressions.

Jorg,Thanks as well for your impression, and comment.

Dear Pnina it was exactly because I like it that I commented on it in the first place. I see that you seem to have drawn the same conclusions as I would have done on how to answer its flaws. The result is indeed a very attractive scene.

What an extraordinary photograph! You have captured a hauntingly beautiful moment in the lives of these women. The photograph conveys connectedness and friendship at the highest level.

There is so much about this photograph that I admire: the veil, the women looking down in reverence, the movement of the woman on the right, the dark dress worn by the woman in the center contrasted with the light clothing worn by everyone else. I can go on and on. Bottom line: IMHO this is a superlative work of art.

Although your talent is admirable, it is your neshumah that comes across in your work. I am grateful for your sharing that.

With best wishes, Shabbat Shalom.
