I really like the beach setting. And your model is delightful. I have never had much luck with the crossed arm pose, must be something about that pose which makes it seem just a little stale. Posing hands and limbs is a tough skill and I am still hit or miss with it myself. the setting sun is very flattering to the face and limbs. She has a delightful mole near her cheek. You can make that work in closer portraits of this pretty young lady ...

wishing you well. gs

Tore,

Love your work and definitely love the model. She is quite beautiful and you do a fantastic job bringing out her beauty. Nice pose, great colors and DOF!

This is a great shot Tore. She seems very comfortable in front of the camera. Choosing an off camera flash has provided nicel modeling.

If I could make a few suggestions. The flash seems a little strong for the ambient light. It looks too much like a "flash" photo. When I meter ambient and flash, I don't like for the flash to contribute more than 30% to the total exposure, often less depending on the strength of the shadows. This kind of situation is where a hand held flash/amibient meter really shines. I take an incident reading of the background and then switch to cordless flash mode and set the power setting on my Sunpak 544 until it contributes 30% or less (the Sekonic reads out the contribution, you just change shutter speed until you get the % you want. In the image above, the flash was set on 1/16th power and the contribution was around 25%. This photo was taken around 7:45 when the sun was still pretty low in the sky.

Although the background sharpness is not really objectionable, it is a little to sharp for my tastes and it kind of goes straight through the middle of hear head. You can always use the box blur function in PS to blur the horizon.

This is probably a better example Tore. Flash contribution was about 20% and it balances with the ambient well enough that it is almost indiscernable that there was any flash at all (the slight shadow behind her leg and the catchlights in her eyes are the dead giveaways)

Thanks Scott, but this is 2 totally different scenes, this shoot was made in full daylight to get some of the blue color in the sky, your first example is much more washed out. your second example is a sunset shoot, thats a totally different light scene but you have lost the black in that shoot.your histogram is empty in the bottom. this shoot is old today I fix the DOF with an ND filter to be able to balance the sun and flash wit a better DOF.

I have one rule, do everything possible with the camera that it give you the best result, don´t try to fix the "basic" in photo shop

I also have a selconic but I use the camera to decide what i want for the environment exposure then I measure the model to get the mix I like between 50-70% is my favorite values. I guess we have different taste :)

Best regards Tore
