pnital 36 Posted December 2, 2008 This needs some explanation. Association , is a part of imagination that leads me, while photographing and expressing my point of view in a dance creation. Trying to connect dance to life, and "life as a dance" in its wider connection. This is a new dance creation that I'm a part of, and its idea and narrative will "speak" of borders. Choreography by Sally -Ann Friedland. While the concept is developing, there are costume fitness, and thought about how it will be connected to the dance movements and the scene as a whole. Seeing the dancer trying her costume, my association, was of women in some parts of the world ,that strong restrictions of freedom are forcing them to cover their faces( "burka") and fight for their liberty. Thanks for viewing. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted December 2, 2008 Yes, I thought she is acting the role of middle east women mostly need to cover from head to toe, only revealing their eyes. We have some in Singapore too. At one time it's an issue when government forbid students to put on this attire covering themselves except to school ( when its not a muslim school). Link to comment
lizweisiger 0 Posted December 2, 2008 I love your "association", Pnina. I read the commentary BEFORE I viewed the image, so I've had the fine experience of literally seeing two different images at once. Very cool. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted December 2, 2008 I love what's here and actually I prefer it without any explanation. It's a great look you've captured which accounts for a lot of the quality here. Still, I don't think you're there just yet si just to give you one possible idea... Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 2, 2008 Vladimir thanks Cherlyn, it is not only in the Middle East, it is in many countries like Africa and many others, you can see it in Europe, as well. Thanks for your comment and reflection Liz, thanks I called it association, as it is still a dance rehearsal. So I'm glad you experienced the two , the dance rehearsal and the association. Ton, Thanks! I thought of something similar before uploading my version,BUT my logic and feeling was that I want to leave it in the dance world and just tell what was my association. Thats why I called it "Association" and thats how I have explained my intention... to connect dance to life, or "life as a dance". As usual with you, it is a good offer and a nice possibility but takes it to another place ;-)) Link to comment

celasun 0 Posted December 2, 2008 Perhaps you may also a try a similar one where a man helps the dancer wear the cloth... That can make it even more life-like... Regards, Link to comment

sallycd 0 Posted December 3, 2008 Hello Pnina ! ... thanks for sharing your ideas and your experiences in pictures like this. Time and time again it reminded us that cultures and our dances made us aware how a certain society become.... Sally Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 3, 2008 Maurizio thanks Bulent ,thanks, this was the idea , the awareness of women situation, through a dance composition . Tolo, thanks as well Sally, thanks for your comment, and your understanding what a long way there are women, that still has to go, in getting their human rights ,and fight cultured repression, and breaking the "glass roof." Each way is good for evoking awareness, dance association as well. Link to comment
lex_photo 0 Posted December 3, 2008 I love the photo and was thinking the same thing when I saw it. It's beautiful as it is, and I love the intensity in her eyes and the elegance as she seems to almost walk through or into the cloth. Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo - Lex Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted December 3, 2008 the expression is strong and can lead to different interpretations...that's how I understood you desire to explain the image....my personal reaction was immediately to associate the image and attitude to clothing in muslim countries (like burka)....on the other hand looking at the clothe in details we see that it's not made to cover the face and the association only comes from the frozen moment (of covering the face)...therefore I see it as a transition, the transition between tradition and modernity...covered or open... pnital 36 Posted December 3, 2008 Alexa, thanks for understanding it and liking, it is a dance photo, so it has the grace of that world, but the association brought me to the other side of women life. Laurent, transition is a good way to depict this association. Thanks for a very interesting interpretation, impression and your point of view to this image Marjorie, it is exactly how dance can be a portrayal of life. Thanks Thank you Alberto. Link to comment
rogerleekam 0 Posted December 3, 2008 Pnina, a mysterious portrait with a strong hint of drama. I very much like her pose and staring eyes which raise many questions. The composition also excellent with the pale background contrasting well with the subject and the black cloth. A nice detail is the two lines on the right which somehow draw the eyes to the subject (I asked myself if I'd clone them out, but I don't think I would). Great work! Link to comment

pnital 36 Posted December 4, 2008 Roger, thanks for your impression. Added to the rest, helps me understand that I have succeeded in explaining the mood of a dance ( even though only rehearsal ) that is also touching life aspects. Bob, Joe, Adan and Afshin, thanks for adding your impressions. Very much appreciated. Link to comment
daily_photograph 0 Posted December 4, 2008 Dress or undress thats the question ... (Superb part of a second!) Link to comment
kirk d 0 Posted December 4, 2008 Pnina, this belongs amongst your best shots. The angle and moment of capture convey what you expressed your intention to be. I like that there is no space to the left behind her like she is up against the preverbial wall. Then there is the opening in the ceiling that to me suggests a possible escape but like many routes of escape, it is out of reach. Link to comment
