My Only Maple

Landrum Kelly

Cropped, darkened slightly, contrast adjusted, mildly sharpened with USM. It was shot at ISO 800 at 1/8000 sec with the lens wide open at f/1.4. My only excuse for using such weird exposure values is that most of the shots made this day were either made inside a building or else while I was not shooting into the sun--just strolling around snapping handheld during my lunch hour.

How many maples does one need, after all? Well, at least it grows inmy yard, even though these branches are in large part overhanging myneighbor's yard.

And it looks like you have a great relationship with her. You seem to know the light and how she looks best. Really beautiful shot. Very nicely framed as well.Congrats to both of you!

Yeah, she's good for a hug now and then.

You might notice, Tiffany, that the color of the border spilled into the picture--blowing the heck out of the sky at the upper right, among other things. I am uploading a corrected version which will surely appear one of these days.

The upper right looks good to me. But because you pointed out a flaw...I am looking at the black on the left side of the image. Is that part of the bg or a little enthusiastic fill work? I still love the image...regardless.

So my fix stopped the bleed at the top right but not mid-left. . . .

Frankly, I don't know how that happened, Tiffany.

I stand by my ratings. I once heard that in Japanese art...a flaw is intentionally left to allow the bad spirits to get out of the art. I actually told that to a customer once.

It worked!

Thanks, Tiffany. Now I know why there are no bad spirits in any of my work.

Hi, Sheryl. Good to hear from you. Keep finding those old cars and buried pop bottles.

Hey Lannie, I like this one a lot. The little corner of blue sky is the perfect accent for the brilliant gold of sun through yellow leaves.

Thanks, Jack. It was a really nice and crisp fall day, and I just had to go home at lunch so that I could shoot a tiny bit before the leaves were gone.
