kslonaker 0 Posted November 28, 2008 Brrrr, brings back (unpleasant) memories of when I lived in Canada and winters often looked like this. Now I'm in Texas and we're eating tomatoes out of the garden in November! Nice shot, Tim. Link to comment

lizweisiger 0 Posted November 29, 2008 Cool image. It's sort of spooky. I like the people contrasted with the church and the crane sort of hovering in the back. Neat idea. Link to comment
timzeipekis 5 Posted November 30, 2008 Absolutely fantastic, a beautiful image that you should be very proud of, I love it! Link to comment
godfather 0 Posted December 3, 2008 I love the mood of it. Really nice framing and also the compo which gives some sort of isolation vibes from it.Snow blizzards are the best times of winter's, at least i enjoy them. Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted December 9, 2008 very nice composition, but i think the fading affect really makes the photo.outta curiosity, where was this shot? Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted December 9, 2008 Tim:Beautiful photograph that conveys both the beauty and the fury of winter. The shot is quite ethereal. Your soft touch is really quite effective.michael Link to comment
michaelging 1 Posted December 9, 2008 Great shot Tim, I too like the softness to the shot. You are a well deserved POY winner. Link to comment
Landrum Kelly 64 Posted December 9, 2008 I like it very much, Tim, but I think that I would have cloned out what appears to be a construction crane in the background. I suppose that you had your reasons for not doing so, however, and I am sure that many purists would agree with you.--Lannie Link to comment
martinguerrero 0 Posted December 9, 2008 Great atmosphere!!! Maybe you could increases dramatism with reducing of blurring in some parts to differentiate levels of depth... Link to comment
Art X Photography 1 Posted December 9, 2008 The mood you create here Tim, is very nice. I like your use of colour tones and exposure. I think it could have been an even better shot with some clarrity in the foreground (2 individuals or the tree), but I understand that the haze offers a dream-like effect. All in all it's a nice capture. well done Link to comment
Jeff Lear 0 Posted December 9, 2008 I also really like the mood. The problem I see here is that there are two great shots. The two people walking (or falling) under the barren tree is a great shot and that mysterious looking Gothic structure that seems to haunt the left hand side of the photograph is another. Individually they would each be excellent, together... they compete for my attention. There are a couple things that I feel take away from the image as it is. One is the crane that Mr. Kelly mentioned, I don't hate it but it does draw my attention to the least interesting part of the photograph. I understand that the next poster will probably love it. The other thing, and maybe it's just my monitor but I find this even more bothersome, is the apparent triangle of light that begins at the top of the photograph just to the right of center and cuts through the middle of the tree on the right and just past the back of the crane to the left then on through the building. No one else has commented on this so maybe it's just my monitor. In the end, I find the whole thing fascinating and well executed both technically and artistically but I struggle with the composition. someoneelse 1 Posted December 9, 2008 Third time Tim, the strenght of this picture is obvious (for me) and that I see a crane doesn't bother me at all, the 2 people makes this picture, even if they stand in the middle, it is a GREAT winter scene Els Link to comment
tholte 16,647 Posted December 9, 2008 Thanks for the comments! It's funny seeing this photo because we are supposed to get a Winter storm today with three to ten inches of snow. If the snow indeed comes, I think I will take a vacation day and walk around the city looking for photo ops. The older I get, the more I like shooting in bad weather. I like the crane in the background but fully understand why some would not. I very rarely clone out dust spots much less other minor actors of an image. I took about four shots of this couple fighting their way down the wind-whipped snow covered street and should have taken more but I was cold and my brain was getting fuzzy. Link to comment
geu4king 2 Posted December 9, 2008 Hi Tim - Fantastic Capture of Winter scene! Excellent tones, soft lighting and contrast... Very Well Composed!!! The actual capture of the "light triangle" is a wind driven, wirl wind of snow (called white out) enhances the overall statement of the Composition!! The only weakness, which is very minor, is the crane in the background... If it was me, I would have removed it. But as you have stated in so many words... "very subjective". Overall, Stunning Picture! A Big Congrats on your achievement, Glenn. Link to comment
