timkeller 0 Posted November 26, 2008 Still resisting that tripod, Dick! But your hands are as steady as a surgeon's. This is a lovely scene, very effectively photographed. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 26, 2008 Thank you Keith, Sumon, John and Tim! I've been returning to some of the same spots and themes that I started shooting last winter when the D300 was new to my hands and eyes. Tim encouraged me to carry the camera with me everywhere. My family kids me about this now, but it has been excellent advice. Tim, your tripod comment got me chuckling, because I know that you are also correct about tripods. I have been thinking a lot about tripods lately, mostly because of you and Matt. I've been looking at good ones, so as not to make the multiple tripod purchase mistake. I'll have to put the tripod in the car and keep an L-plate attached to the camera. As for this shot...I truly think the VR and iso 1600 helped. Best regards, Dick Link to comment
john van aarle 0 Posted November 26, 2008 Reading your problem with tripods.. Well this is maybe another solution , I use it often when on vacation and travel light .. check this out: http://www.instructables.com/id/String-Tripod/ Let me know what you think...*__* Cheers, John Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks, John! Very clever idea...I might have to give it a try. I do have an old Buschnell tripod with a pan head. It's just very cumbersome to use, although I do occasionally get it out. Best to you! Dick Link to comment
andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted November 27, 2008 good composition, whit the line drawned by the lamps. i'm curious to see how it could be with a longer exposure and the traces of the car's light. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 28, 2008 Thank you, Andrea! I should have more opportunities to experiment with this scene this Winter. Link to comment
knobby6 0 Posted November 29, 2008 Hi Dick: Impressive that you can hand hold it a 1/13 sec. The lights look very sharp. You must have the hands of a twenty year old. Getting a monopod might also work well in very low light at even slower speeds. Although not as steady as a tripod, they are very portable and work well on lighter lenses. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 29, 2008 Hello, Monte! Thanks for the comment. I have been considering getting a monopod to carry with me in the car. Although for shots like this, I could plan it and bring my tripod along. Link to comment
