Election Eve, 2008, Livingstone College III: Waiting for the Next President

This was shot at Livingstone College after sunset on the eve of the2008 election. Since Livingstone is a historically black collegefounded not long after the Civil War, this election was particularlymeaningful, and there was a sense of quiet optimism on campus on thisMonday evening before the nation would elect its firstAfrican-American president.

The bench seems as quaint as an old Singer sewing machine, sitting austerely among the confetti of celebratory leaves.

I checked out the old picture. The bench looked so much more aggressive and ambitious back then. It looks a lot more reflective nowadays.

Jack, we've all grown older, and the old bench is not the only thing that has been left out to rust in the rain.

 

The old bench almost looks like it is simply waiting to die, does it not?
