bosshogg 4 Posted November 25, 2008 Really impressive lighting here. And the usual fine composition. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted November 25, 2008 Thanks, Dave. I shot in RAW for the first time this night and it really helped me with correcting the exposure here, as I couldn't get it right when I shot it. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted November 25, 2008 Excellent, a kind of photographic film noir and playground for the imaginative mind. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks, Jack. I've been itching to take this shot for weeks. I think it turned out fairly well. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted December 2, 2008 I now shoot everything in the RAW, that way I can spend less time in the field trying to get it exactly right and more time enjoying my walks (but not walking in the raw). Is the establishment really named "Uncle Julio's Hacienda"? If so I hope the food that is served there has not been Americanized as the name of the restaurant. From the thumbnail I thought you had a lit sign showing directions into a set of dresser drawers. Another addition to the "signs with arrows" collection. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted December 2, 2008 Shawn, I'm a little late to the RAW game, and now I regret not having shot some of my earlier, over/underexposed shots in RAW. Oh, well, I guess I can always go back and shoot them again. Yes, this place is called Uncle Julio's Hacienda. It is pretty Americanized, but they make a great margarita/sangria swirled drink. tonmestrom 4 Posted December 2, 2008 nice to see you're still a member of signtology. You sure lucked out on that colour sign but then again, luck favours the brave. Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted December 2, 2008 Thanks, Ton. :-) I'd like to get a shot of it at sunset as well. The building is bright purple, and I think the color, combined with the setting sun and the yellow of the arrow, would be pretty interesting. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted December 2, 2008 I think you're right, especially with that rich texture of the walls some sidelighting would work great to bring that out. Keep on the lookout. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted December 2, 2008 wonderful light here. RAW isn't a cure-all, but it sure does work wonders on some images. i have been shooting RAW almost since the time i started shooting digital. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted December 7, 2008 absolutely lovely rendering, but it leaves too much of it too prominent to recede into the background, but not prominent enough to hold attention. this is my take. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted December 7, 2008 while you have a point concerning the lighting I feel your crop is way too agressive because it removes a lot of what the actual subject is to be. If one were to crop a square one wouldn't be a bad idea because it would do justice I think to what Doug intended while getting rid of some of the darkest parts. But in the end it's Doug's photo. JamieK 1 Posted December 9, 2008 Interesting, but still clearly one image on top of a different image, thematically speaking. If you tried that crop of mine, you could render a little darker as well... Link to comment
owp 0 Posted December 15, 2008 Doug, Great mood here. The window on the right is a little distracting. I really like the reflection of the arrow in the middle window. It pulls you into the room. I keep getting pulled out to the right though. Really interesting shot. Regards, Oliver Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted December 20, 2008 I can sense the flickering echo urging passers-by to duck in and have a pint. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted December 30, 2008 Looking on all the offered changes, I still like your origial best. the dim light and shadow has a mood ,and looks curious enough with the arrow, inviting to enter the place.Well composed imo. Link to comment
doug_gentry 0 Posted January 1, 2009 Doug, nice work! It's really a talent when everyday settings such as this you can turn into art! Thanks for sharing your work throughout the year! Best wishes, Doug. Link to comment
