It may work, even though, apparently, you think you mis-timed the shot?  I would crop out the bright areas at the top and even consider cropping a bit off the left side--that might work better, I don't know.  I wouldn't dismiss this shot because you didn't get both figures into the frame--that actually might add interest and a bit of tension.  I do like the fact that the little girl is behind and separated from what I suppose is her Mom...and Mom appears to be in a hurry and ignoring her daughter.  So you have captured a story here--nice job!  The fact that the little girl is not entirely in the shot adds emphasis to the idea of the distracted, long-legged adult Mom, in her hurry, leaving behind the young girl.  I'll try and attach an example of what I mean by the crop idea.

I like your suggestion. Clone out that area instead of crop might work also. Mom does look in a hurry, she is on her way to school (teacher's college down the street). Maybe she's late for class.
