I think you have a sympathetic image of this poor old man.

I tried here reducing the light areas in the background for a low key look and bringing more emphasis to his face and crouching posture by cropping tighter.

I dodged the sclera (the white of the eye) and the catch lights of the eye for extra "pop".

I also added an edge treatment.
