This photograph really captures the reality of life in Israel. (I visited about 10 years ago.) Soldiers are just another part of ordinary life, just like auto mechanics, doctors, farmers, etc.

 

Effective use of contrast and texture. I wonder whether the photo would be even better if you deleted the black borders - your call.

The "black borders" are not there for aesthetics. Just to square off the image for purposes on the thumbnail page. There was another place I submitted and this was required so that horizontal and vertical images were the same total area. I just go used to doing it. Guess you have to pretend the border is not there :-)

Also from your other photographs I can see that you know how to show men in a sensitive way. I like it very much and hope you will show us more pictures like this. And I really want to know how you produce these splendid black and whites!!! regards, Leon
