On The Run

One of the things I had put high on my wishlist for this year's

Namibia workshop, was to photograph oryx in the Namib desert. We had

arranged for a microlight airplane and all the necessary permits to be

able to fly over and land in Sossusvlei National Park for three

consecutive days. The first two days we didn't find a single one, but

I must add that even an oryx-free flight over this amazing area is

more than spectacular. On the third day I left at sunrise with the

pilot to scout the dunes for oryx one last time. After circling the

area for a while I suddenly spotted not one, but over twenty oryx on a

flat area between the dunes. I asked the pilot to fly into the

direction of the sunlight to get those wonderful backlit dust clouds

and fired away. I have never seen images of a herd of oryx this big

running, so I'm pretty pleased with the result.

I think its fantastic, the composition is really good, plenty of room for them to be running into, nice exposure, and a good sense of motion as well. Good work. :)
