This photo just blew me away with the darks and lights. And the light playing on the little bushes on the right side adds so much to the shot. Another Burkey just hit my favorites. Awesome job on this one Lion...RAY

The sun had fallen behind the mountains as Chris Harris and me were

finishing up an hour stroll through the Mojave desert looking for

photographs. These granite outcrops were everywhere and Chris was

shooting his final photograph when I spotted this intimate scene. The

light was fading quickly as I set up my tripod and adjusted my

composition. I managed two exposures before the glowing light on the

granite completely disappeared. I almost didn't take this photograph

because of the low light levels and had Chris been ready to leave I

wouldn't have. That would have been a shame as this is one of my

favorites from our trip. I toned this with Ektalure Cream because of

the similarity of tone with this area.

Again, it is the luminosity that sells it for me. This just glows with light. Excellent processing. I photographed this scene too; and have worked up a color rendition, I have to say that it doesn't hold a candle to this (as usual ;>), but shall wait for a time before posting to let everyone fully enjoy the terrific work you've done on this one. Nicely done, Leo! Cheers! Chris

Low light and that glow after sunset is such a great and dangerous and challenging time. The tones and shapes remind me of Edward Westin. Yes I know that is a big name, but this time, that is the first thing I thought. You used the term "intimacy" and it fits so well. You have captured a moment and place but also an idea and an image that lets the imagination soar.

great photo, there is no other word for it, this is the "Right Stuff" I wouldn't hesistate to make a LF print from this one. The tone is appropiate as well.

Leo, this is simply outstanding. You have made such quiet light glow with such vitality.

I must say that my thoughts turned almost immediately to John Sexton's work when seeing this. I guess it is the similarity of the light and the alacrity with which you have handled the contrasts.

This almost seems to have more luminosity and vitality in the shadows than the lights! How is that possible?

Anyways, a simple scene stunningly rendered. Great job and an instant favourite.

What a surprise that your mentioned John Sexton. I took a workshop at Andersen's Ranch in Snowmass Colorado and he told that this was his favorite lighting situation. The light at thist time (just after sunset), though dim, just glows. It is a shame that so many photographers have packed up their equipment and left never seeing this golden light. As I was photographing this scene the light just vanished but not before I recorded it. Chris also has an image of this same area that I'm very anxious to see and I'm sure it will be stunning. Thanks again Ian, it's always a pleasure.

A really superior capture here, Leo. The light transitioning is remarkable as it plays upon the rockface and the plants and floor. Really fascinating image. After all isn't light what photography is all about. Kudos on this one my friend, rek.

Technically superior image, Leo!  This baby still continues to glow like a beacon, and I remember, very well, what low-light conditions you took this image in.  While a truly interesting composition, it is the treatment of the light and the black and white presentation that makes this sing.  Special work here, Leo!  Cheers!  Chris
