dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted November 14, 2008 I like that there's a little bit of light shining on the sign where it says "light." Pretty cool. Where ya been the past few days? I've been waiting for you! Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 14, 2008 I've been a bit overwhelmed lately, and under the weather. Nothing serious, but still a bit more than I would like. Thanks for noticing. Link to comment
laurentlacoste 0 Posted November 14, 2008 Wonderful. Light, color, and composition. What an entanglement of wires. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted November 14, 2008 Interesting shot. Effective color contrasts. I agree that the light cast on the sign is a nice touch. Blue background is gorgeous. Nice goin'................. michael Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted November 14, 2008 I like the light and colors a lot, though I'm biased as I recognize this as my neck of the woods and think you did a good job with it. Trinidad? Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 15, 2008 Thanks. It was sunrise on crisp clear day. Probably would have been better a few minutes later with the light a little stronger, but I was moving fast that morning. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 15, 2008 Yeah, I was close to your territory here. Funny thing about Las Animas was that it seemed such a nondescript place, offering little inspiration, but I came away with about five images that I really liked. While I was there looking around, it seemed bereft of anything photographic. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted November 15, 2008 I like your subtle use of light here to accentuate and make your point. It not only makes the point, but it keeps reinforcing it and is compelling to look at. Because of the lighting, composition, and starkness, this is one I would look at again and again. In the right light and from the right perspective, anything can take on artistic qualities. Jack McRitchie 150 Posted November 15, 2008 I envy your ability to transform the ordinary into a work of art. You are an alchemist with a camera. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 16, 2008 The mere fact that you would look at it more than once makes it success in my eyes. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 16, 2008 In the magic of turning nothing into something, I do not hold a candle to you. But thank you for the nice words. Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted November 16, 2008 Thanks. Glad you like it. A little different from the America you just experienced. No? Link to comment
laurent_jaussi 0 Posted November 16, 2008 the sign serie you're collecting will make a remarkable documentary record of the american street sign past.... Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 16, 2008 Yes, as I get older and older I'm acquiring a lot of sign images. Maybe they'll be assembled. Maybe.... Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 17, 2008 It's not just the light and the composition, Dave, it's that beautiful blue sky that makes the sign and the light look so wonderful! Very nice! Dick Link to comment
dandem 1 Posted November 17, 2008 Great control of the light, Dave. Well seen. Regards, Lawrence. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 18, 2008 Thanks. I love these old relics. Imagine the optimism and unbounded enthusiasm that must have existed when this was new. If you saw the place now, you would wonder what went wrong. Link to comment
rarmstrong 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Dave, for me these structures represent a simpler time, a simpler world where right and wrong seemed to be more well defined, where neighbors and friends trusted each other, where banks loaned money to customers who could understand the terms and pay back the loan. What happened, look around, the culture has changed, nothing happens locally in most places, people shop at Walmart and the corner stores are gone, banks are detached and in large cities where there are financial incentives for taking ridiculous risks. Look at our nation, our economy, for years now it has been propped up on a house of cards...it's coming down. But the spirit of the people in America, the ones who love these old signs, is still there. That's why we'll be OK. Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted November 18, 2008 How appropriate to the times to be showing the advertising sign of a power plant when it is quite obvious that not a single light on the sign is actually working. This is quite a message about the broken-down infrastructure of the current days. I love the shot, and the wires don't bother me one bit. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted November 18, 2008 Thanks. And if the wires are a problem, I think we have a problem. ;) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 19, 2008 I have so many different impressions...., some of them are familiar through your photos ,and others as well....;-)) Link to comment
