Sunset Sonata

ian cameron

The patterns created by strawbales dotted over freshly cut stubble are a favourite with photographers the graphic shapes and uncluttered scene makes for simple strong pictures. The problem is everyone does it. I found this marvellous sloping field which created some visual depth and noted that it faced the setting sun. The extraordinarily long exposure of nearly six minutes ensured that the windblown clouds duly moved across the sunset sky creating a most attractive shifting wave pattern. Hopefully it offers an unfamiliar alternative to the standard view.2 x 0.9ND hard edged graduated filters (down to horizon) metered from the field and placed at -1.5 stops to retain some detail. F/16 at 6 minutes (note the sky has moved during exposure NOT PShop effect)NEW!! Photographic Workshops and Masterclasses at TRANSIENT LIGHT.

A six minute exposure all done in camera with 2 x 0.9ND hard edged

grads down to the horizon. The clouds drifted from one side of the

image to the other during the shot creating this wave like shifting cloud

pattern in the sky all the time the exposure continued, the colours in the

sky intensified. No chance to bracket though.

Very good exposure Ian, when I look from above my screen it looks a bit better though. 6/7a

This is a great shot Ian! Only a very good technique can produce this result, congratulations! I really enjoy it.
