dougityb 0 Posted June 20, 2002 Wuf, Wuf! This composition has a lot going for it, and the toning treatment is pretty well chosen, I think, but the selective focus is frustrating me. Shots like this, where the subject is continuous from foreground to background, need some sort of other characteristic at the focusing point to satsify the viewer's eye upon arrival at that sharply focused point, that is, if selective focus is used. Here, it's 5 links seriously out of focus, 3 or 4 sharp, then all the rest out. If there were something else in, or around those 3 or 4 sharp links, then I think the photo would have much more power. Cropping out the first five fuzzy ones yields a more powerful image, too, for me, anyway. Also, Jay, what do your instincts say about the bottom right corner? Dark enough? Originality high, Aesthetics average Link to comment
aaron_c. 0 Posted June 27, 2002 I'd hang this on my wall if it were one of mine - and I wish it were. Great use of DOF, original perspective, and nice toning. Link to comment
mauhaus 0 Posted August 16, 2002 @ Doug and Angelo: I disagree concerning the DOF. This thin plane of sharpness shows an intention by the photographer, which couldn't be communicated in an all-sharp photograph. @ Jay: This is far more delicate! I hope the meaning shines through my bad english...Sincerely Thomas Mau Link to comment
anders_soendergaard 0 Posted April 15, 2003 Nice choice of DOF. You've almost made the focus as selective as if it was an tilt-shift objective. You should've compressed it less, the pic seems to pixelate in the corners. Good job! /regards, Anders Soendergaard Link to comment
