michaellinder 16,611 Posted November 12, 2008 This shot poses a deep philosophical question. How many spiders can sit on a leaf? OK, enough whimsy. You've again used a black background effectively; it really helps to show off the colors of the leaf and spider. The detail of both subjects is excellent. And although it isn't unusual to find spiders on leaves, I suspect it's quite unusual to see one this size! My point - in a subtle way (compared to some of your other abstracts), the photo requires the viewer to "suspend" ordinary perceptual categories. That is a worthwhile endeavor on your part, and I congratulate you. Ciao for now, michael P.S. Yesterday I posted a shot to to the "abstracts" forum ("Bodhisattva"). Can I impose on you to take a look and to critique it? Link to comment

david_cassidy2 0 Posted November 12, 2008 Pierre, this is a striking image. It instantly shocks and grabs your attention, and it makes the mind wonder: Is this spider really that big, or is the leaf really that small? Our perceptions of a "normal" leaf tell us the spider is huge, but our logical minds also tell us that the spider simply CAN'T be that big. That's what is so strong about this image, it confuses the mind and our belief at the same time, even though we all realize spiders DO get that big. We just don't want to think about it! Well done. -David :) Link to comment
