Mark Keefer 4,757 Posted November 11, 2008 It is times like this I wish I had a better telephoto. The Canon 70-300mm is still nice and I am not complaining. But I think I should be able to accomplish a better shot than this for detail and clarity with the equipment I have. I was not using a tripod. He was flying about 100 feet over head and I had the zoom all the way in. Perhaps a wider aperture would have helped but then it is trickier to get this guy in focus. I was in landscape mode when he flew over the trees. Unfortunately he was not staying around long enough for me to play with the camera, so I did a rapid fire hoping I would catch a few nice photos with the auto focus. I think getting used to the new camera will help me change setting faster but any suggestions and tips will be appreciated. Thanks for looking and commenting. Link to comment
jmcconnell2 0 Posted November 12, 2008 Mark, the camera was not focused on the bird. I take most of my photos in aperture-priority with the center focal point. I have the 70-300 IS lens, and it will do MUCH better than this. Good luck, Jim. Link to comment
matman1975 0 Posted November 13, 2008 The answer might be a 400mm f/5.6 L lens, THE lens for BIF(birds in flight) shots! Very sharp, with lightning speed, accurate focusing. I anyway like your shot and think that it is not out of focus like Jim said, but the lack of sharpness probably has to do with the overall quality of your lens.
