RickDB 10 Posted November 10, 2008 ...I occasionally have these twitches of the creative grey matter - but I don't usually post them! I had never looked at the "Extrude" filter until Pierre demonstrated it - my fisrt thought was that the result looked like skyscrapers seen from above and wouldn't it be neat to meld a shot of New York from the Empire State building with an extruded background - I guess I got a bit carried away.... Thanks for dropping by, Cheers! RickDB Link to comment
RickDB 10 Posted November 11, 2008 Pierre, I can understand why you like to create these kinds of pictures - you have total artistic control and can intrigue the viewer with hidden meaning and symbols that are open to more than one interpretation. This was inspired by the financial crisis - the red and white hot towers of Wall Steet ready to melt down, and here we hang, somewhat nonchalently with one hand in pocket, surveying the scene, oblivious to the danger. Greed, symbolized by Lucifer, is egging us on - the best buying opportunity in 35 years! - we can see through him, but we don't - he casts a great shadow that should warn us, but we just see the glitter of money. Behind us is a symbol of salvation (not intended in any religious sense!) but can we get there from our present place? Looks a little tricky! Thanks for dropping by..RickDB Link to comment
aginbyte 0 Posted November 11, 2008 .... couldn't believe your name on this shot, Rick, but I love the "meltdown" and the guy hanging on by one hand. Link to comment
RickDB 10 Posted November 12, 2008 ...my dark side will out! (that may be an English expression). However, with all those converging verticals you may be forgiven for not thinking a TS lens was used. Admittedly the rusty propane cylinder which formed the background was shot in Canada with a 24-105L (great lens). The Devil is actually a 19th century German beer stein shot here in Florida with the same lens too; the fireworks were shot in Yokohama with a Canon A-1 / 50mm f/1.4; New York was shot from the top of the Empire State building with a 17-85 IS lens and the guy hanging from the beam was shot in a side street in Prague with a 70-300 DO lens - BUT , the crucifix was shot in Church of St. Nicholas in Prague with the trusty 24TS-E - of course the perspective had to be adjusted to match the scene. Putting something like this together is a lot of fun, and really good exercise for developing ones PS skills. Cheers! RickDB Link to comment
