What do you think of this photo? Is there anything I could do better in the future? This

is probably my best reptile photo so far.

What else could you do?

Look at the cephalic scales... there is a lot of texture to take advantage. Schelegelii's are very nice snakes to be photographed because are "quiet", the behave well.

Can you avoid the use of frontal light? I think you used the on-camera flash... Imagine the same photograph using side lighting... more shadows and lights... texture.. contrast...

If you like to photograph snakes I invite you to visit my photo.net portfolio and my personal website (www.lopezjohnston.com) where I have some snakes.

Your approach is promising good shoots, then keep experimenting with different lighting conditions... read about lighting... and most important... KEEP AWAY FROM THE FANGS...!! , NEVER forget that the snake ALLOWS YOU to take your picture...

is a good photograph.. but can be a extraordinary one too.

Congratulations

I don't have an external flash. And luckily, the snake was behind glass. It's difficult to take good photos of zoo animals that are behind glass or fences, so I'm glad I managed to take this one!
